The omelet bar was stocked, the grits were hot, masks donned, and the cutest little green coffee truck you have ever seen sat at the end of a socially distanced line of buzzing wedding quests. It was a 2020 Saturday morning, but this one met with the happiest of sights—newlyweds, hand-in-hand, running into their reception to celebrate with family and friends. It was the wedding day of Dallace and Dustin.
One year ago today my husband and I were celebrating our 5 year anniversary and gearing up (literally) for Emily and James’ wedding day! It’s always a blast to invite my husband as my second shooter; we typically save it for friends weddings so that we can take dance breaks whenever we want during the reception! I would bring him to every wedding if I could but his career dreams actually aren’t to be a second shooter for weddings (can you believe it?) so we let him keep his freelance audio engineer gigs.
Kristin and Greg have the best sense of humor, so I actually never felt like I had to put my foot in my mouth after I delivered some classic dry Carla humor. I also love how casual they were on the wedding day when I had no chill, considering they looked absolutely amazing and everything about their wedding was beyond gorgeous. I love their style, from the champaign and whiskey in the getting ready rooms to the cocktail hour hors d’oeuvres. Thank you both again for inviting me into your wedding and many happy returns for what’s to come!
I love to share about the wedding day in these posts and point out my favorite part of the day. Honestly, this was one of my most anticipated weddings of 2019! From meeting Catherine and having worked with her wedding planner and venue both several times, I knew this would feel like an all-star wedding. I had very high expectations on this being a wedding unlike any other, and it lived up to the hype! The whole day, filled to the brim with beautiful details and moments alike.
I love how delicate family traditions can feel. The act of carrying on a tradition, whether for luck or just the sake of continuing the honor, it just puts the whole day into perspective. That’s how I felt at the beginning of the day, holding Kella’s borrowed six-pence to photograph along with her new rose-gold jewelry and custom wedding invitations. Wedding days can easily veer extravagant, but I’ve found that those delicate moments are waiting in every wedding day to have their moment.
